Sounds like someone owes you a new bolt assembly!! That is not good at all. Good thing you caught it when you did.

You more than likely know this but I'm saying it anyway.
Don't tell Rossi that you were shooting reloads or any reloaded ammo.!
In this rifle if you return it for warranty work.
They will void the warranty!! I have never had a MFG agree to fix a firearm under a warrantee program after they found out reloads were involved and damage ensued. They have sent me letters back in the day saying fire any factory round you can find in the proper Caliber for your firearm . Reloads are a quick path to warrantee refusals .
And it does look like the bolt was bit hardened properly!

Yeah Hommer,
I figured that I should not mention reloads. I wonder what WOULD have happened if I had been shooting some full strength factory loads. Probably flare it out more, or do it the same, with less shots.

"And it does look like the bolt was bit hardened properly!" I think you meant not, instead of "bit" ?

While I had the bolt out of the 454 and my 45C. I must have hit them with a file at least 10 different times. And the more I did it, the more they seemed about the same. I'm thinking more like it was probably because of the 60-75% engagement of the lugs that caused the problem. But then, that does not explain the bolt face being .010" caved in at the middle, and then the ejector is .010 below that.

Tuco,

The reason I caught it, was because I could barely get the next round in. That made me start looking for a problem.

I appreciate the emails we've been exchanging. I pretty much understand the mod/fix you performed to get the locking lugs to fully engage the receiver. I'm wondering if you plan on posting pics of the area(s) you made adjustments?

Sorry Xshot,

I have overlooked your past a couple of times.

I'll try to get a pic posted soon. It's to cold out there today.

Don,

I'm confused, you live in Georgia. It's got to be a lot warmer there than here in Wisconsin. :D I'm guessing you shop isn't heated.

Like I said, I get the jist of your modification. I was just thinking that all the other fixer's here might benefit from some pics. Come to think of it, I need to take some pics of my .357 R92. These pics would be where I eliminated the magazine plug screw contact with the barrel and installed a set screw through the magazine ring.

Even though my shop is heated, its been a mess with a the winter projects/repairs I've been working on.

Yes I live in Georgia, but when you get use to 99 degrees and 99% humidity, then 42 is cold! And I have not gotten a heater yet. Haven't needed it till right lately. And since I've gotten older, I get a lot colder.

I flew up to the Oshkosh air show one year. It happens during summer, the last week of July and first week of August. The temps got up to 82 degrees one day. I felt like I was in heaven, what with it being so cool. All the locals were complaining about it being so hot. The paramedics were running all over the place because so many people were having HEAT STROKES! it's all about what your use to.
