Cj45410 mongo
Hello every one I'm new here but I wanted to join you all for a reason. I purchased a circuit Judge a few month ago looking to experiment with the "450 mongo" wild cat. I used 303 brit brass instead of 444 marlin due to availability issues with the 444 brass. It took three rounds to fire form the 303 brass to the right size but I finally got all 200 cases done. I started out using 45 colt SA only data to load up some 255 gr rf's cast bullets and 300 gr lfp's using w231 powder, needless to say I hated the powder selection from the get go. Tiny amounts of powder and stuffing cases with Dacron fiber is a pain. I switched to Imr 4227 for more powder density and got much better results but it was pretty dirty I.E. unburned gunk down the barrel. I went back to the drawing board (read internet here) and perused the 45 70 trap door data and found a recipe in the 14000 psi range using a slower powder, Imr 4064, and I like it much better, the report is less sharp and the recoil is more of a push than a shove. I've now put over a hundred rounds through the gun with pretty good accuracy to boot, 5 shot strings at fifty yards just over 1.5 inches is the norm 1.25 if I do my part. The sloppy force cone is the culprit I guess maybe a new barrel and tighter cone may be in order. Now to the meat of my post does any one else here have any experience loading the 450 mongo and if so I'd love to here about it. P.s I also recently got some 9.3x74r brass and have been looking at it it may have to be shortened some but it defiantly gets the bullet even closer to the cone.

Re: Cj45410 mongo
Back in april there's a post started by me hoping for some info and in July another post when I did a .444 marlin-.410 case. I would of used a reamer to get rid of some of forcing cone to make it closer to right for the .444 case but then the 45colt would'nt of worked right so I just use the .444 as .410 cases now. Figured I would load up the 450 mongo to hot and blow something up.

I owned a CJ4510 and thought about the 9.3x74r brass to fill the cylinder length, a member even sent me some brass to work with, but I just could not get past the forcing cone on this rifle. I thought may be the huge amount of freebore forward of the cone was a .410 thing so I had my dealer get me a CJ44. Unfortunately, it had the same issue so I moved on.
What cooled me on the 9.3x74r is the cost of brass, approximately $2.50/case. I also had issue with such a large case loaded to 45 Colt SAAMI specs. I thought it a huge waste of powder.
That said, I'm interested in your work and what you encounter down the road.

Oh Yeah I'm sorry folks maybe a picture or two would be in order eh? Tomorrow I'll take a few shots of the fruits of my labor, and if any one wants any particular details I'd be happy to help. This is an interesting experiment that has been (attempted) done by others before me. I really enjoy the process of wild cat development but it has been said it's just finding a new way to do something that's already been done by a commercial loading so why bother , well that may be true but for me it's not an endeavor to come up with a replacement for a commercially available round its just my way of trying to give people more flavors to choose from. So on that note I'm off to get some pics done to post tomorrow. TTFN all.

Re: Cj45410 mongo
Just cooked up a nice mild load using Imr 4895 38 gr behind a 255 rnfp cast bullet it shoots well with no signs of excessive pressure and I don't have to use a filler. I tried Imr 4064 but at 42 grs it was a little to stiff and showed signs of excessive pressure in my cj. I tried using a lighter load of 40grs but got three squib loads and had to hammer the bullet out the barrel, not good, so I disassembled them asap. I can still load up 18 gr of Imr 4227 but have to use filler, and put up with crud in my bore but they sure shoot well, it's the most accurate load I've found yet at 1.5 inches 5 shot group at 75 yards. I'll put the Imr 4895 loads over my chronograph tomorrow and shoot for accuracy to determine grouping size etc. Oh and just to be clear here I'm aiming for 1000 to 1200 fps moderate 45 colt pressures, I know not to horse this weapon to much I've seen the postings of cylinders coming apart and don't wish to try that any time soon eh? My only real beef with the gun at this point is the cylinder lock up is not very positive at times and the smoothness of the double action trigger rotation is chunky, one hole in particular is very hard to rotate and it doesn't seem to be getting any better as the gun works in.
