Just another M92 re-finish job.

Post by Pb2au »

I didn't bother with any before pictures. My 92 had the usual red dirt el cheapo stain on the stock. Thanks to our good Patron Ranch Dog's advanced water bath stripping method, I was able to strip the butt and fore grip with little effort.
The last coat of stain is drying now, so tomorrow I should be laying on the tru oil.
I will have pics up tomorrow!

Not time for pictures yet. The tru oil is taking it's time drying. It doesn't help that that the lab is a bit cool today. I dug my heater out of hibernation and set it to work warming up the lab.
I am encouraged though. The crazy endangered jungle wood does have some grain hiding in there. This might turn out pretty interesting.

I've used a couple of drops of Japan Drier (get it at Home Depot) mixed with a small amount of linseed or Tru-oil in a small cup to accelerate the drying process.
A hair blow drier will help too but make sure it's in an area where the hot air stream won't pick up dust & lint and blow it onto the wet finish.

Just laid on the final coat. I'll will do the final inspection and reassembly tomorrow morning. There will be pics, I promise.
The really bad thing is that this project is turning out pretty good. Good enough in my convoluted mind to justify buying another one so I can refinish it. :geek:

Turning lead to gold.......which is essentially what we are doing with these in-the-rough factory Rossi rifles.

Ok, enough of the waiting. Here are the pics of the finished projects

1st, the overview. Nature was nice enough to give me a decent background to shoot against.

Next a close up of the stock. Their was some grain hiding under that red factory finish....

The forearm;

And finally the beauty shot,

It was a terrific project. I am seriously planning on buying a .357 now for Mrs. Pb2Au just so I can refinish it too.
Thanks!

Great job and great pics. :D
Definitely a lead to gold operation.
All that's left is to get a big buck in the sights and "blood" the new gun.
