Taurus started out with Smith & Wesson building parts for them and later branched out into their own company by taking over the Beretta plant in Brazil to build the Beretta line of guns sold their for the military and police hence they got all the equipment, blue prints and rights to several models of the Beretta at that time including the 92 which they have improved upon in my opinion based on the fact I've owned and own both.
