Rio Grande Still Shooting High ;- (
Shot Rio Grande today and it is still shooting 7-8 inches high at 50yds.
I may take my Skinner Sights off and have the bottom of the Express sights re-ground down about .030 and see if that will do the trick. I already have a Marbles .530 front sight and I don't want to go higher than that.
The standard 405 gr Remington's going out at 1350 may have something to do with it also.
What are your thoughts.

Mine shot real high as well. When I went the scope route I hand to modify the scope rail because I ran out of elevation adjustment. Mine was shooting 12 inches high at 100 yards and there was nothing left on clicks from the scope.
These guns are a labor of love no doubt..... When I had the skinner on it I had the use the extra high front sight from skinner. I did not take much off of it.
I am pushing a 405 gr at around 1500 to 1545.

On the Skinner website they have recommendations for starting heights for front sight heights. If memory serves me, for rifles that use front sights dovetailed into the barrel they recommend a front sight height of .600" to .650". Those numbers may be based on a Marlin but are likely true for Marlin clones like the Rio Grande also.
Can't remember what section in their website where that information can be found. Maybe an FAQ page.

I wonder if I push a 425 lead bullet out at 1500fps if that would bring it down, If that is the case then that would be the load for this rifle ....just wondering.Rooster59 wrote:On the Skinner website they have recommendations for starting heights for front sight heights. I will have to get the .630 3/8 base for sure, that might just do the trick.

wll,
I took the brass bead off of mine (which gives me a much sharper squarer sight picture) and made an extension out of some scrap metal that was about the same thickness. I made it too tall so that I could file it down to the correct height and welded it on. You could do the same thing and just epoxy it on till you find the correct height, and then get a sight that height.

Dang, after seeing the picture, I had to look at the gun again to see if it really looked that bad!.........it does!
But I can't tell it when I'm shooting.
