Looks like a case of sabotage to me...
A small diameter, deep socket over it will give you something to push against. I can get you a picture a bit later today if needed.

It shoots again :) Still seems a bit hard to load but a lot less than before. First one I chambered did not jump up into place immediately, but all following chambered easily.

Looks like that carrier follower is needed! Strange that the carrier had the pin inserted but the rocker was floating around inside. That would be pretty hard to do accidentally.

I am glad these are relatively easy to take apart and get back together :)

I appreciate everyone's help!

Sorry it took me so long to get a picture of what I described. That socket give you a good base to push against and a good mechanical advantage.
