the 44 rocks
Cole (my 11 year old son and my hero) went out to the Mojave desert today to test out the new carbine. I had never shot a 44mag before so I wasn't sure, thought it might be a little too much for Cole.
The gun shoots great, cycles great and we had no FTF's, no nothing, It was sighted right on. I thought there would be a huge recoil diff between the heavey 24" .357 and the light .44 carbine, I was wrong, both the 357 and 44 seem to have about the same kick. Cole had no problem with this new gun and it loaded very well. Just waiting for my mag follower from Steve.
The .357 throws the mt casing a few feet behind me right where I want em. The 44 just kind of drops em at our feet. The wood on the new 44 is much better then the 357, the fit was about the same on both. I had no problem taking the wood off the carbine for a tung oil soak.
I'm very happy with these guns. I think they will serve my son well, after all, loading up the gun safe for him is all this is about.
Next project is building our own AR-15

Re: the 44 rocks
I now have a pair of 44's and I can see the possibility of a 357 and 45 LC in the crystal ball for the furure. I got my first from a friend on Marlin owner's forum.

These things are fun as all get out to shoot.
I took all these out today by myself and had a blast...

Impressive looking brace of leverguns.
That's gotta be a Browning BL-22 at the far right.
Don't own one yet but would like to.

What a great outing and it is super that you are introducing your son to these rifles! Beautiful rifles as well!

I am thinking about a 44 mag to go along with my SBH I bought not long ago.. Nice to be hearing these good report cards from Rossi Owners!
No such thing as bad weather in Alaska, just lousy clothing choices!

Right, the H001 I bought last Christmas for Cole. I think this is Pricedo's way of talking me into buying another lever actionArktikos wrote:I believe that one is a Henry... Looks about like mine!pricedo wrote:Impressive looking brace of leverguns.

Re: the 44 rocks
I have the H001T with the octagon barrel and really like it alot. I have held the little Browning a few times at the store but it seemed too small for me. The Henry, laid on top of my 92 20" has just about exact same dimensions which fits me well. The Henry 22 has the same or more heft as my 454 92 as well, which is a good or bad thing depending on what you are after..golfish wrote:Right, the H001 I bought last Christmas for Cole.
