RD, I have a 788 in 308 and what you say about it should have been made in 35rem make good sense. That would have been a bad ass light bolt gun. And for a reloader that would up the pressure, it would really be strong. I bet you know it when you let loose with that 600 as they are small and light too aren't they?

I think I'm gonna order a set of guides for the 357 since you say they have them. I did sort of a hatchet job on mine and it looks rough. But they function just fine. Other than the first cycle after reloading. Then it will sometimes throw the first round out the top. Wont do any of the others, just the first, and only with 38s. I know that is usually that the guides are to wide, and wiggling a bullet between them shows that I have to much clearance. I think I'll shim one of them in a tad. I'll measure it first and see how much clearance I have then decide on a shim thickness. What's a good number to shoot (pun) for on the gap? I'm thinking 1 or 2 thousandths over max loaded cast bullet/cartridge diameter.

I'm with you on that blasted butt plate and stock. I saw your post about the boyds stock and am real close to ordering one to try. It sure seems like someone would make a decent replacement for the rossi since so many have been sold. I have even look at stock duplicators before, but they are pretty expensive and do no make a real close fit. There looks to be a lot of finish work after the milling is done. And I am no good with wood at all.

I really want a flat butt and a big recoil pad, and I do not want an add on/slip on. In shooting my 357 the other day, after 250-300 rounds even the little magnum begins to hurt. Does not help that I wrecked my V-rod a couple months ago and messed up my shoulder with an AC separation. And yes, with the DW brass and upping the volume of the 357, it's gonna hurt even more. Moving lighter bullets faster tends to make a sharper whack to the shoulder.

Left 30/357 (30R92) with an NOE 311008......center 357 mag Lee 158RF....right 30/360DW (30R92 Magnum) and the same NOE 115 grain, Dimensionaly almost exactly the same as a 300 blackout rimmed, but I like the sound of 30R92 MAGNUM, better! Plus the bullet is NOT longer than the case like a blkout.

Look good don't they? And even at 1.750" they go through the rossi like a hot knife through butter.

Looks really good Don!

As far as the shims, I've chased this a bit with my 454 Casull, you have hit is pretty close with the .001 to .002". I would also suggest brass shim stock.

The only problem with the Boyd's stock set is that the forearm is not a 357 Mag forearm. Of course all you need is the butt stock but it would be nice if they were both walnut if you are going this far. I'm also not a wood guy, or at least I haven't done this type of work. Of course, I will get a complete hand set of stock inletting tools out of this.

"stock inletting tools" that doesn't even sound good! But I know what you mean.

I cant even put a rubber recoil pad on right. The ones I have tried in the past turned out awful looking.

Don - Those rounds look nice. Have you heard about the 30 Badger? It's the same thing as you have but on a 38 Special case. Pressure runs in the 30-35K range and guys are getting 2000fps with the Lee 113gr bullet.

The 300 Blackout is really a marvel of balance and efficiency. I know they operate at higher pressure, but I loaded some 110gr JSPs this weekend for my dad's Handi rifle. 19.7gr of Lil Gun gave me 2325fps with outstanding accuracy. Report and kick were mild too.

I'll be very interested to see what you can get out of your 30/360DW.

Yes, I have read about it a lot, it the 30 reese and the host of others that have been made like it all contributed to me wanting to do this. But really they are all 32-20 with a little twist added to them.

I loaded some 110gr JSPs this weekend for my dad's Handi rifle. 19.7gr of Lil Gun gave me 2325fps with outstanding accuracy.

See, that's the part that I don't get. The little badger goes almost 2000fps, and to gain that other 325 the blackout probably uses three times the powder and 20,000 more psi. What's up with that??? Yes on the 110 grain bullets. Were yours carbine slugs? I'm thinking that the speer 110 hp would be good to but really wish it was a soft flat point. I'll bet that round is pretty flat shooting out to 150-200 yards.

I want to try the magnum version first, so I can see how it does and because it is a little more practical what with brass being everywhere. Then kick it on out to the 360 size. I'm thinking making the reamer long so that I can just stop short for the mag, then go deeper for the 360. That is if...IF, I ever get around to it. Learning to make the reamers is a challenge in it's self. But I'm gonna do it damit. Then I have to learn how to thread a barrel. Heck I have never even had a barrel out of the receiver before.

I've been playing with the Badger for a few months on the Contender pistol and Encore rifle. I'm just trying to get an accurate plinker to replace non existent rimfire ammo. I would love to have it in a lever gun and Ruger Blackhawk. I need to find a cheap 3 screw 30 Carbine. :D
