All .454s and .480s, new and old, have two loading options and a tube that threads into the receiver instead of just holding with a pin. They also have an OEM padded butt.

Here's an older Puma version of the .454 I fixed up.

I bought a new 454 Casull around Thanksgiving last year that only offers loading through the side gate.

Same with my Sep 2023 purchase. It looks like Rossi might be doing away with the removable mag tube.

Not going to lie, I was really hoping for the option to load both ways

  • Do you reload, or is 454 Casull readily available, for you?
  • Do you need the extra power, over the 44 Mag?
If you can say yes to those questions, go for it.

BUT: Have you thought about a 45/70 instead?
Ammo is likely more available, and it can be loaded much harder, than the 454 Casull.

wish i could have found one with both options of loading. But I bought mine new about 4 months ago, being they are so hard to find anywhere mine has the Kings Gate option only, But I Love the punch that thing gives.
