Re: Official R92 Picture Thread
Hi Everyone
I thought I would put my two Rossi rifles up
Here is the 454
And here is the ol' girl,my 44Mag
I have fun with these two rifles.
The 44Mag is very accurate(have to find my load notes again)it will shoot a clover leaf at 75 meters

Very nice! The mag tube clamp sling mount is unusual in these parts, but very practical.

Yeah it is,believe it or not when I bought this 454 new the wood was covered in the original blackish stain, like the one on my 44 Mag,but could see the tiger strip through it underneath,so stripped it back and refinished the stock, was very happy with the out come of it.Ranch Dog wrote:Very interesting wood on the 454!

No telling how much pretty wood was covered by the tar finished use by A. Rossi (pre-Braztech). My 480 Ruger was the same way. Unbelievable wood under that goop.hodgieno3 wrote:Yeah it is,believe it or not when I bought this 454 new the wood was covered in the original blackish stain, like the one on my 44 Mag,but could see the tiger strip through it underneath,so stripped it back and refinished the stock, was very happy with the out come of it.Ranch Dog wrote:Very interesting wood on the 454!

some nice figure in your rifle,it is beyond my comprehension as to why Rossi don't go with the nice look of the wood, than to stain it in that blackish poop

To make them all look the same and because no one has to be hands on with each rifle if they all get "coated". Simple economics.hodgieno3 wrote:Ranchdog

Re: Official R92 Picture Thread
My experience has been very similar. A few coats of Tru-Oil on top of the original finish and the bland walnut stocks look nice, with more depth, better color and an adjustable sheen.COSteve wrote:
My only real complaint with my Rossis were the plain, dull stocks. Before I chose to get walnut versions, I decided to give them a coat or two of WATCO Danish Oil right over the original finish. The difference was astounding.
