Residue from Birchwood Casey Bluing Kit

Post by vvllbs »

I made an attempt last year to reblue a shotgun barrel with a Wal Mart kit. One year later I’m still wiping residue from it. I’ve tried every kind of oil I can to get it off. Any tips? It’s a late 1970’s stevens Single shot

May not. Depends on the way it was done. You'll know soon.

You may need to use IPA (alcohol) more than once.
You might even need to acetone it.

One bud who managed to get 'cold blue' to work reasonably well would heat the steel first with a heat gun.
He'd do a couple coats and then oil and blend.

I've always been a bit leery to even mess with any of the cold blues since I can generally see it after the fact.
Aluma black on the other hand works tolerably well on black anno most of the time.

Yep. I do pretty much all of that.
