Awesome .480 Ruger

Post by Shannon.Deese »

I am a new member and the new owner of a stainless steel Rossi M92 chambered in .480 Ruger. I got it from an old co worker getting ready to retire and move on. Mine has the fiber optic sights and is fairly smooth operation wise. He gave me the three boxes of ammunition he originally bought with it. It’s only had 20 rounds put down the barrel. So far I enjoy the rifle and the forum.

Thanks. I bought all of his reloading equipment too. Its mostly old school stuff with a lot of wear but it functions great. He gave me all his hand notes on his loads too. Which is awesome it helps me out a great deal.

Aren't there only 100 of those? To get the other stuff with it is great unless you paid JM Marlin .357 price for it.

I’m not going to say what I paid for it all. I did get a good deal though. And I got several
hundred rounds of brass in different calibers. Only the original 20 he shot through the .480 though. I’ll order some starline brass for it and load up in a few days.

For those of you that reload for the .480 rifle, what are you using for powder and lead?

I use Lil'Gun with a cast bullet of my design, a TLC478-375-RF

NOE has a 480-384-RF. I think .480" is too fat for the R92 and will present chambering issues. I'm sure it could be sized down.

I tried both the Lee C476-325-RF & 476-400-RF, but found them both under diameter. The might work as powder coated bullets. I do not think the 400-grain bullet is appropriate for the cartridge as it is plain based. Granted the FPS will be within the range but it needs a lot of pressure to push it.
