ASI doesn't have a hard reload-behind-cover rule. There will be an occasional stage where this is mandated, but generally the rule is reload between first and last shot. Yes, carrying rounds in loops on the butt or forearm might quicken the pace. I know the Long Range Precision guys do that.

reloading took the most time. One of our stages calls for 15 shots from three different positions, so I started with 10, shot 5 and reloaded 5 and finished. That allowed me to make up some time by shooting quicker and being solid on my transitions. I teach this class with the AR so I do have a bit of an advantage. That said, I was flat out RUNNING this rifle and it felt great. Eyes were opened on what this old obsolete thing will do in capable hands.
PS- the boss refused to allow me to add it to my list of approved rifles..I tried though..

No he just has to keep in mind all of the LCD's that are in our department. A good share of them I would not give sharp eating utensils to, let alone a loaded firearm.HarryAlonzo wrote:Your boss is an idiot.
I use the cork on a fork analogy when I am teaching classes...

Cork on a fork I love that I can relate I have seen way to many accidental discharges at my gun club to the point I rarely stay if others show up to shoot.

Amen to that.akuser47 wrote:Cork on a fork I love that I can relate I have seen way to many accidental discharges at my gun club to the point I rarely stay if others show up to shoot.
My favorite outdoor range was Lytle Creek from about '98 through '03. RO's were great at keeping the line safe with one always on duty and walking the line. Cold sessions always meant actions locked open and weapons unloaded while everyone stayed off the concrete and away from the tables until session went hot again.
One day the RO was preoccupied, and during a cold session while most of us were down range checking/changing targets I heard someone yell, and when I looked towards the line there was someone fiddling with a rifle pointed towards us.
That experience really soured my opinion of public ranges. I'm always on the watch for being muzzle swept on the line also. I much prefer BLM land for shooting.
