Ohh Deer

Post by SaltH2Odeprived »

I was at the end of the hunt about 10 am Sunday morning. My gun was already in the case, I was bumping around in the blind closing the windows when two does came out into the field, tails up, looking back over their shoulders as they trotted straight toward the blind. Then this buck came out in a fast trot following them. By the time I got the gun out of the case, got a quick look with binoculars to confirm the antler spread was legal, he was 50 yards when he turned sideways. Shot hit on the shoulder 2 inches higher than my aim because my gun is zero at 100 yds. He accelerated to a full run, I racked a second round and hit him right above rear flank, he rolled into the ground right there.
Eight point, 16 1/2 inside spread, 150 lbs.
45 Colt, 325 grain bullet.

Nice deer! Never ceases to amaze me how some people worry about the littlest noises keeping deer away and here you are closing down the blind and three of them run right at you. Don't get me wrong, certainly noise can alert them, but I think many deer are desensitized to people noise. Many times you can drive up to within 20 yards of them on a tractor, except for the week after Thanksgiving in Ohio... Congrats!

Familiar with it, use to go through Oakwood when my parents lived outside of Flint, near Tyler.

Congratulations! Running lead can be difficult with these slow bullets.
