Yep. If that wasn't a fluke I'll be good to go. I'll try to shoot a couple more groups soon.Ranch Dog wrote:Sierra's 150's do look promising!

Re: Enfield Sporter Project
Better late than never...
So, today I shot two different powders with Hornady 174gr round nose bullets. Varget and Hybrid 100v. Both charges are one grain under the max loads on Hodgdon's web site.
For some reason I buggered up the nose of one bullet from each 5 round batch. Fine, I'll trim off the lead nose with my pocket knife and use them to foul my clean bore. Four shot groups will be good enough.
First shot at upper left was Hybrid and damaged bullet.
Second shot at upper right was Varget and damaged bullet.
I loaded the mag with Hybrid and shot the 3" group aiming at the lower left square. Ugh.
I walked to the target and marked my first shot with Varget with a black marker. It is in the upper right of the square.
I loaded the mag with the four Varget rounds and aimed at the upper right square. The Enfieled shot them into 0.575" With my damaged-nose fouler shot, that's 5 into 0.7".
Avg velocity is 2310 fps.
Score one for Bubba.

Re: Enfield Sporter Project
What was your charge weight and cartridge OAL? I still have some Hornady bullets and would mirror it in my No. 4 to see what the results are.
Why do you think the exposed lead was damage during feed? I wonder if a slight change (+/-) in OAL would help?
I do like the round nose design for my hunting needs in my South Texas brush.

Re: Enfield Sporter Project
41.0 of Varget
2.950 OAL
I just seated to the crimp groove and used a Lee FCD for the crimp.
I damaged the bullet nose during reloading. I have some old crappy dies and have to be careful to guide the bullet into the seating die.
These rounds feed slicker than snot. One smooth, fast push and you can't really tell that you fed a round and cocked it.
Not only do the round nose bullets work well, but they look good with those long rimmed cartridges.
