Don, you're right, I have an ML like that, with a wedding band transition and it's just pretty... but turning a barrel would be way to much for me to take on. Also my stack of old practice barrels is almost gone!
Thinking the loaded weight is cut by close to a pound.
If you get to it, let me know, I can add some input from how it went.

Re: 92 SHORT MAGAZINE CONVERSION
Greetings
Lay your hands on a Winchester 76 or 86 long octagon barrel. Carry that around for a morning or afternoon. Then grab up that 92. Have a good grip on it so you do not launch it into the ceiling.
Not that a short mag is bad. Did the same on our 1873 32-20 with a 18" barrel. Makes for a very handy easy to move about up close varmit popper.

Re: 92 SHORT MAGAZINE CONVERSION
For some reason when I read the title I thought you were modifying it -- somehow -- so it would accept a magazine like a Winchester 1985 or a Russian(?) shotgun that can use tube and a normal magazine as sources for ammo.

Man. THat would be a cool trick, and completely beyond me to accomplish.
