Hubby just sent pics of the waxed Rossi wood. Not the prettiest grained wood, but I like the looks much better now that the dull red finish is off and what passes for grain in that wood is showing.

Yes, he said two coats of Renwax was all he did to the Rossi.

I'm kind of glad we didn't commit to a lot of furniture grade refinishing only to find that minimal grain hiding underneath the red factory finish. On the plus side, I knew about the mystery wood when I bought the Rossi, and now that it's in a natural color, it doesn't bother me at all.

-update-

Stripped the BLO that I'd just put on back off with Purple Power (good stuff), dried, lightly sanded, and then applied a couple of good, heavy coats of Watco Danish Oil, Medium Walnut. By golly, I think we have a winner! Wood now looks 100% better, IMO. Letting it rest and dry for awhile, then I'm going to coat it with Tom's 1/3 Military Stock Wax and call it done.

I'd love to bring photos, but I can't seem to do so from my phone, I swore I have before. And since Photobucket went insane, can't use that.

All right, this is much better now! Looks like a proper levergun now, IMO. Some before and after photos.

Few more - Again, this is with the Watco Danish Oil Finish, Medium Walnut. Top coated with Tom's 1/3 Military Stock Wax, aka Gunny Paste.
