GratefulShooter has joined the Rossi Riflemen
Hi folks. New member here from Northern Kentucky.
A couple years ago I acquired a SS Rio Grande in 45-70. I'll have to say it's been a labor of love to make it function properly. However, after pulling it apart many times to clear serious jams, polishing internal parts, fixing a hidden dent in the magazine tune, and installing a SS magazine follower, I'm closing in on having gun that functions as it should as long ... as long as I don't baby it. In order to to avoid jams I still have to work the lever like I really mean it.
FYI, I also own a blued JM Marlin in 45-70, and I'll have to admit that the Marlin functions more reliably. However, it's seems a bit bulkier and heavier and I really prefer the look of the full length magazine tube on the Rossi. I'm determined to keep the Rossi and continue working on it until it functions as reliably as the Marlin. Hoping I can pick up some tips here to help me achieve that goal.

Thanks Zippy. I've been lurking for a while but had some trouble getting signed up. It's good to be officially on board.

Welcome to the forum! I'm an RG4570 guy. Love mine and sold my Marlin 1895G in favor of the Rossi.

Re: GratefulShooter has joined the Rossi Riflemen
Welcome GratefulShooter.
Im in Southeast KY
The Rio Grande is the way to go.
I bought a Marlin 1895G back in 2015 when i was in Lexington one day.
Biggest mistake of my life.
Went back to marlin twice before it would lever correctly.
The Rossi 92s that Ive purchased at Buds the last few months, have marlin beat in overall quality.
Saw on youtube today where the brand spanking new marlin/remington 336W lever rifles have top quality plastic barrel bands.

Re: GratefulShooter has joined the Rossi Riflemen
Welcome from another .45-70 shooter and lever nut.
I haven't managed to go with the Rio having a Winchester for years earlier and hearing a few too many stories of folks needing to tinker with them plus the discontinuing of the model put me off a mite and my second one ended up being a Marlin.
You'll have to tell us what you did and how it worked out.
