New Avatar, Any Guesses?
Decided it was time for a new avatar and a likely candidate showed up. Any guesses as to what it is?

You're pretty good ak! Yeah, a mud dauber nest that has hatched. It was attached way up under my tool bench in the barn and when I saw it I thought my grandson must have stuck a toy up there a couple of years back, the kind with the rolly eyes because that is all that I could see, the "eyes" looking out.akuser47 wrote:Looks like a mud dober wasp nest lol or a geod

Yea we have similar around here though I don't think I've ever seen one that looked so much like a set of eyes before pretty neat. Figures I mispelled it lol been along while since I've seen any to tell the truth. I was even going to do a related image search but was having trouble copy and paste in it on my tablet. Lol I guess my first guess was correct. I got lucky

We have plenty of them around here. You must protect anything outside. I don't know how many power tools I turn on and have fail because they have packed the motor with mud. My truck is 13 years old this year and I bet it has several hundred pounds of mud packed up in the body.
They are a supreme spider killer and that is where you find them. With our live oaks, we have plenty of spiders and that is what they are after. I think they put the spiders in suspended animation so that their young can eat them with they hatch.
On spiders, the number one rule of my night time hog hunting is to never pass under the drip line of a live oak. It is a really good way for you to have a spider drop down the back of your shirt!
