I told my BIL about all the good things I've read about the Ruger American Ranch rifle in 300 Blackout and so he bought one.
I told him I'd sight it in for him.
I took it out today and was extremely disappointed. The whole thing feels really cheaply made and rough. The bolt lift was incredibly heavy. I cycled it about a hundred times but that didn't help.
The magazine is hard to load. Push down and then slide back. The rim of the top round catches the mouth of the lower round sometimes.
And to top it off, because of light primer strikes it wouldn't fire a single time.
I disassembled and cleaned the bolt and will try some other ammo tomorrow.
I wish I wouldn't have recommended this rifle to him.

Re: Ruger American Ranch
I tried again today and still no joy with factory ammo.
I loaded some rounds and used CCI small rifle primers. 3 for 3 and put them into .75" @ 60 yds.
Trouble is my BIL isn't a handloader.

Re: Ruger American Ranch
I did some more research and it turns out that there are some of these with headspace issues. I put .015" of tape on the base of a new round and it still chambered easily. The rounds I reloaded were neck sized and fit snugly so maybe that's why they fired reliably.
Back it goes to Ruger.

Re: Ruger American Ranch
klr, thanks for the report on the Ruger.
Ammo's been sitting in the closet waiting for the right rifle to come along.

Me too....
Actually I've been waiting on an upper I ordered from Radical Firearms on 1-31-2016.
The lower has been built for weeks.
