Nope, no video.
We never think about that till it's to late. You would think that all I have to do is stand there and watch him drive, and I would have time to do whatever. But a "GOOD" spotter is worth more than an extra horse power or two.
I stand close behind him so that I can coach him through the turns and down the straights. He is concentrating so hard on driving and getting close to the buoys that he can't see the path ahead. I can advise him to ease left or right to avoid a wake because at this speed it will sometimes flip when it hits it's own wake. Sometimes he will be fighting so hard to get the inside line that he is driving a slower line. My job is to see and recognize this and make him move out a little away from the buoys, so that he can relax a little and this usually makes him get around the course faster. If you touch or go inside a buoy during these record runs, that run is scratched, during a race it's 50 points off your score. Cut three at a time, and it's a LAP penalty. Sometimes the wind will be making the water to rough on the opposite end from the boat, and I need to let him know this BEFORE he gets there so that he can either slow down or scratch the lap and wait till calmer water. Got to conserve the batteries on these electric boats because with only four or five laps of good juice in them, you don't need to waste to much of it. If you just go balls to the wall all the time, your gonna flip or kill the batts, and then it may be another hour or two before your turn and hot batts are available again. You save the balls to the wall move for the last hour of the day before they shut the course down!
It's sorta bad being the "caller" as we call ourselves, Cause like with this and during a race (callers are mandatory during a race) I might not get to watch my driver do his work, as I am always looking ahead watching for potential problems. In a race if you hit a dead boat, you are disqualified, plus you will do damage to both boats that may not be repairable before your next heat comes up. Hit two boats during a weekend race, and you are disqualified in that class for the entire race weekend!

I don't either. I was hoping that you could tell ME.
In my computer illiterate mind, cropping is making it smaller and that should be re-sizing. But I know it actually means something else. But I don't understand it or how to do it.
Is there ONE button somewhere that I can hit and re-size a pic?

Re: IMPBA new world record
thanks moontree, kaycee.
kaycee use to race boats long time ago, back in the nitro only days IIRC.
I'm wishing it wasn't so far away to the pond, cause I would like to go back and watch. They were having the trials all week long and on into this weekend too.
About an Hour before we left out last Sunday morning. A fellow shows up from Orlando that we have raced against before. He is very good and goes all over the country to race. Colorodo, California, Michigan, even into Canada. He comes over to talk and sez that he is there just to try and get the P Mono record, and plans to stay all week. That's the record I just broke!!! I don't think that he knew that I already shared ownership of that record, and he sure did not know that we had just lowered it. Even after we told him, he talked about how "weak" it was So now, I have to sit here and wonder if he's gonna break it before I can even get it into the books. I think I'm safe cause even though he is a very good racer. It takes a whole different setup and mentality to break records and he is not a tuner/tweaker.

Love your story Don...great achievement...looks like a lot of fun, throw in the time spent with your son, from my perspective, it doesn't get any better than that.

Re: IMPBA new world record
klr,
I got a video that has just been posted of Martin Truex's record breaking run. This was done with two CMB 45 nitro motors. The motor limit in twin is two 1.01 cubic inches, so him breaking it with those small motors has all the old farts in a tissey. They are calling foul (like they always do!) While the 45s might actually be a little slower, they are so much lighter and need 1/2 the amount of fuel, that the boat can turn sharper. Then add that truex is driving it soooo smoothly that he gets around the course quicker. He's not even close to the buoys, and they better hope that he never learns how to get any closer!

Re: IMPBA new world record
Is it Dopler Effect that makes it sound like the boat shifts gears a couple seconds into the run?

Re: IMPBA new world record
that's probably the motors "coming ON, the pipes" you'll know what that means if you have ever riden a motocross two stroke bike. That's the instant when you think to yous self "I wish I had been holding on a little tighter"!
But they do not have gears. Just a flex shaft, right off of the crankshaft.

Re: IMPBA new world record
So it's getting on the pipe AND the flex shaft getting on the same page as input and output....plus Dopler maybe.
