Hog Growth Rate

Post by Mrlucky353 »

Does anyone know how long it takes for a baby hog grow up to adult size?

I just saw 3 adult mama hogs with about 8-10 brown and white striped piglets.

Thanks.

I understand that at a year old a sow can breed.

This is the first hunting season that we have yet to have a single hog sighting. Finally, after a decade it looks like we have made some headway. One of the things that I had to move past was killing even the piglets but I don't have a problem with it because they do mature so quickly. I've killed them all equally.

My hope is to manage them like I manage the deer but it will be a totally different discipline. I want it to be at a point where I have to hunt a hog rather than shoot hogs. It would take a lot of text to explain the difference but may be you guys will understand.

A sow will have 3 litters of 7 per year. She will be pregnant while the previous litter still follows her.

Wow I didn't realize they breed like that in the wild. Domesticated on the farm we got two to 3 litters a year so I guess makes sense.
