Chance to buy a unique Rossi 92
I've got a chance to pick up a Rossi 92 that is a little different than any I've seen.
This one is a blue 44 Magnum, with an 18 inch PORTED barrel. It also has fiber optic sights and the removable loading tube like the 454 and 480 guns. Unlike thos guns it does NOT have a recoil pad, it just has the steel carbine buttplate.
I don't need another 44 levergun at all, but I'm still tempted just because it's so unique.
Anyone ever seen one of these? Or fired one?

Hey why not. May be somebody did the work after the sale.

Don't know why anyone would need a recoil pad or a ported barrel in .44 Mag.
I own several .44 Mag rifles and have fired all kinds of max loads in them but even the little Chiappa Mare's Leg has no recoil to speak of.......it's a mediocre revolver caliber in a 4 pound+ rifle.
I like the idea of tube loading though.
I've never heard of a Rossi 92 in .44 Mag in that ".454" configuration.
My guess is that it is a post factory custom job.
If I had a gun in that configuration in .44 Mag I'd likely want to keep it unless it didn't work.
I'd give it a good inspection including cycling ammo through the action & if possible a test shooting before committing to the sale if I were you.
Maybe somebody botched the conversion job & then "dumped" the gun.

I found pics of a nearly identical gun in .454
I'd say that is most likely *IS* a factory gun. Maybe Steve Young will chime in?

Everything looks identical to the known factory offering. Is that 454 for sale? I looked for it but could not find it.

I just found the pics, I think they are from an old Auction Arms listing.
