Really beautiful morning !!
Two of us at the 100 yard range. The other gentleman was sighting in his scope at
100 yards and having difficulties. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
I set my target frame at 50 yards with an eight inch diameter target.
I was hoping that I would at least hit the 36" wide X 60" high piece of cardboard
with out touching adjustment knobs. Aimed dead center, one, two, three and no holes
to be seen.
Hmm, took a random shot at the top of the cardboard, nada. A random shot at the
bottom of the cardboard and another miss. So much for thinking I'd get lucky and
find the cardboard right from the gitgo.
LOL ... okay Doc ... drug the frame to the 25 yard mark. made some drastic adjustments
to elevation and finally hit the outer ring at ~ one o'clock after a number of tries.
The other gentleman had the R/O assisting him and I asked the R/O to assist me
when he could. He did, using a rest and telling me how many cw clicks to make on
the windage dial he put three across with one almost touching the bull.
Turned it over to me and I put a fourth to the left of his three. Awright ! I should
mention that he adjusted the height as well.
I put a fresh target out and after a couple of flyers settled down.
At this point I've used up all my ammo, but I'm pleased, not the best results but
getting there.
Conclusion ... there's more than meets the eye when it comes to zeroing a red
dot. Turned into a two man job. But listening and watching how the R/O took
a shot, set the red dot on the hole than moved it to the bull and patiently did
it over till he was satisfied where the POI was. One click on this scope is equal
to one MOA. One MOA is approximately one inch @ 100 yards, half inch @ 50
and quarter inch @ 25.
Next trip when the temps return to normal I'll go for fifty yards
Oh, for the record 125gr Berry's plated bullets over 4.7 g TiteGroup, .357 mag,
sm. pistol primer. I didn't use the rest just my elbows. It was a fun day !

Yes, great work. Also nice to see a guy that isn't afraid to ask for help and in the process learn something! Next time, you will be the guy helping!

Looks like you're getting it Jaybm! Load some more ammo and pretty soon you'll be eating out the 10 ring.
At my age, there IS nothing better than shooting.

Re: Zeroing The Red Dot
LOL...Geez, that sounds so very familiar ... almost a mirror of my range run with the new red dot. Good job getting it back on the paper and close to the bull. I'm close to zero at fifty yards. My next trip will get it zeroed at 75 yards (hopefully) and that will be good to go. Most important thing...it was a fun day!

Re: Zeroing The Red Dot
LOL ... have to admit it was a learning experience.
The ole saying " can't teach an old dog new tricks " came to mind but
the R/O out here is one great guy and always helps anyone who asks.
As a side note ... he brought out a 9mm bolt action carbine with a box
magazine. Forget the brand but it had a red dot as well. Said he'd been
looking for this particular rifle for years and it was in great shape for
one that was produced in the 1990's. I'd label him as a collector !
Well, loaded some more 125gr Berry's and some 158gr Oregon Trail
Lazer Cast. After this arctic blast passes through I'll be doing the
task again.
Almost every day at the range is a good day ... except when the bullets
don't go where you're aiming
