4-9s and a 7 ....is that good or bad to you?

158g SWC is definitely not too heavy for the rossi, if it is going fast enough. But since they are factory rounds, I guess that they are soft lead. If so, that could be a problem.

I shoot a lyman 358156 SWC,and it does well at 100. And I also shoot a 358429 SWC 170g that also groups well at 100.

Well, I made it back to the range yesterday. I am very happy with the results. I am using a 100 yard target which has a nice 6 inch bull. I fired 12 rounds and my results are: 1-5, 2-7s, 1-8, 2-9s, and 6-10s with 4-Xs. I will take the blame for lonely 5. My load is 14 grains of IMR 4227 with 158 grain swc. This load gave me 1283 fps. The same load went 993 out of my 9 inch Ruger SP100. I now have to load the empties so I can do this again. Thanks for all you help. :D

just curious .... what is a "9 inch Ruger SP100".

I have a 3" SP101 and my son has a 6" GP100 ..... If we mixed them together, could we get a 9" SP100? :D

Just jerking yer chain  . I like to see what my rounds do in various barrels, but at present the only carbine/revolver combination I have is the .44 Rossi 92 and Ruger Super Red Hawk.

Sorry, it is a 5" Gp100. It likes the same load also.

I've seen the 4" SP101 and it is pretty sweet but IF I'm going for a 4" gun I'll be reaching for at least a six shooter.

No, the 158 is great in the Rossi. I've had excellent groups with LilGun powder in the 357. DP

Not sure how they compare but my Marlin 357 likes 158's and 180's. For powder 2400 works pretty well for me but Lil Gun is even better. Quite a few people that are really happy with their 158 semi-jacketed bullets swear by Lil Gun. Especially if you want to make them really zing. Lil Gun prefers to work at the upper ranges of published loads.

My 158XTP-HP loads are just past the mid-range of published data for Lil Gun and gets into the high 1700fps range. And laser accurate.
