Gas Checks
Aluminum vs copper. I know aluminum is a little cheaper but will it seal as good and stand up to high heat and pressure? I want to try gas checks on some bullets for my .303 but don't want them falling off or burning off. Are they harder than copper? With cast wheel weight bullets how much faster can they be driven with GC's installed. I would like to get near 2000fps.

Re: Gas Checks
I have used both and like the copper check better. Hornady makes good check. There is also a guy on ebay that makes a good gas check I have used. What style bullet are you molding, a gas check or plain base?

Re: Gas Checks
I bought them off gun broker and they look like they are the Lee 160g with GC base for a 7.62x39

Re: Gas Checks
Alloy is important but I figure without the copper check I could not be shooting my cast bullets at jacketed bullet velocities and pressure like I do.

Re: Gas Checks
do the aluminum checks have the same retention as copper checks?

Re: Gas Checks
Did the listing show them as sized and lubed already. I apply the gas checks when I size my bullets. Not to say it can't be done if they are already sized but the process of sizing the bullet when applying the check somewhat crimps and sizes the check into place. If it were me I would purchase a sizing die in the appropriate Diameter and get some checks and resize them again while installing the checks. http://leeprecision.com/bullet-casting/ ... izing-kit/

Re: Gas Checks
They are alox lubed but not sized. Wish Lee made a .312 sizer but I'm sure with my barnyard engineering skills I could hone out a .311 sizer to fit.
