Hodgdon to Discontinue 4 Powders by end of 2014

Post by Steelbanger »

FYI. I copied this from another site.

Hodgdon Powder in a email has given notice that the following Powders will be discontinued this year:
being discontinued:

4756, 4759, 7625 and PB. Email was signed by Chris Hodgdon, and dated December 15, 2013.

The email further stated, "but there are many reasons why we are discontinuing
including outdated technology, high manufacturing costs and low sales."

Thanks for the info, missed the "bullet" on these as I don't use them. Usually, notices like these effect my first choice!

Hummm, that's 4 powders that I have never tried. I recently bought a pound of 4759 cause I kept reading good things about it, but I guess I'll hold off on trying it and just save it for someone that thinks they can't live without it. No need finding out about it if there aint gonna be anymore.

4759 was the only one of those powders I ever used in any quantity for reduced plinking loads.

I think we will continue to see this with other companies who make reloading components. What I have read is the biggest reason is the demand is off the charts for every component related to ammo. The loss to change the line over for products that are not a top seller cost the company time and money. I still wish I had the money to open a primer plant and maybe .22 LR ammo......

I was lucky.......the only significant bite I took was when the Winchester 785 ball powder bit the dust.

I was using it to load for 3 rifles I owned at the time that are long gone (Ruger M77 in 270 Win, pre-64 Win model 70 in 300 H&H Mag, Rem model 700 in 7mm Rem Mag).

Sprinkled the last 1/2 can of Win 785 I had left over on the lawn during last years spring cleaning.

I like h322 and use unique, 2400, 4227. 3031, 4350. All are well-used powders so shouldn't be in troublefrom any of the manufacturers. I've used some of the newer imports ram shot has hunter and xterminator. They seem to be ok, meter well, and were available when the shelves were bare. There is always a reason to try something

And a lot of the time, a lot of reasons to go back to what you were using! I too love Unique,2400,4227,3031,4350.... they seem to be the standard for a lot of us.
