Too Many Bullets not enough Guns

I've been busy lately getting ready for the new guns I'm planning to buy.

Are you using case gauges to ensure they will fit?

No Max,
I'm not. I don't have any of those. I am full length sizing them so there should not be a problem. I did check the case length before loading and had to trim some of the 3030. But the others were new brass and the length was within specs. For the COAL, I crimped in the crimp groove which is usually way deeper than is nessecary for most guns/bullets. And also is usually shorter than the MAX, OAL in the loading books.

The only one that I think might be a tad long, is the 38 super. I'm using an old Lyman mold for it 356634. It's a 130 gr. TC that I have had good luck with in my 9mms. It also does real well in 357 magnum and in the rossi 92. It does not have a crimp groove so I taper crimp somewhere on the forward band. If they are a little long, I'll just push them down a little more and re-crimp. Not too worried about accurcy with the first few hundred sent down a new barrel. Mostly just wanting to make sure the thing will go POP and cycle ok.

I only ask as I've made ammo that "should have fit" with the full length sizing die and they were under max COAL and they still didn't fit...

.30-30:

And assuming you are looking for a .38 Super in a 1911 you always need to check your crimp in the barrel to make sure they seat right with the barrel hood:

(this is for .45 ACP but the same thing applies to .38 Super)

If the slide shoves the case home and closes the action then you may squeeze fit teh bullet to the chamber and have a pressure spike, shove the bullet into the bore and when you hand cycle the slide the bullet may pull free, or the bullet may be shoved back into the case again causing a pressure spike.

Any hangdun ammo I make I prefer to pull the barrel or test fit in the cylinder to ensure proper fit. I don't buy case guages either since I use my barrels. I'm not sure of .45-70 as I don't load for that or have a rifle in that but with any handgun ammo you need to make sure the crimp is set as any auto uses the case length for headspacing.

Well the 3030ammo was fine, but the 45-70 needs a little tweaking. Not real sure what to do but get another bullet mold, or ream the throat. But if it shoots good like it is, i'll leave it alone.

I did not get the 38 super cause they did not have one. 1911? I never said that was what I wanted :)
I was looking for an EAA witness match elite. It's a CZ 75 clone and it fits my hand as good or better than a 1911. I got one last year in 10 monkey meter and it is the most accurate out of the box auto gun I have ever had. I have 3 1911s, and they all shoot very good, but that 10 is something else. And loud as hail, But throws the brass wayyyyy over yonder. I wanted the super and then get a 9mm barrel for it. And I need a 40sw barrel for that 10. I have a bucket full of 40 brass and only a glock23 in 40 that belongs to the wife. I had a beretta 96 but got rid of it cause I did not like it at all. Just like that glock, I hate that thing. She has a hard time with it cause it's so snappy. I'm looking at one of those wolf barrels to change it to a 9mm. I think she could handle it better that way, plus I would have the option to convert back to the 40 if I want to.

I know what you mean about loading for autos, some are just plane picky. Then others are simple, like that dad blamed glock. It will eat anything you throw into it. Got a chamber the size of a wash tub. I had a guy tell me a few months ago, that I should not be shooting cast in my glock. "Wish I had know that 25 years ago, I could of killed myself" was my reply.

I wouldn't feel right saying not to shoot lead in a Glock as I did it for a long time and cleaned the barrel of lead when I was done. Some pure copper Chore Boy wrapped around a bronze brush cleaned the lead right out of that Glock barrel. My only other thought is you might want to hold back from casting and loading any more as the bore in some guns can be really over size. My Beretta 92 looks like a smooth bore after shooting lead that shoots just fine in my M&P9c. But I can cast the Lee 358-105 SWC and size it to .358", tumble in WLL 45/45/10, and they shoot just fine... Guns are picky with lead...

I had three of them at one time, shot a lot of cast out of them without issue.

I bought my Colt Series 70 in 38 Super thirty five years ago. It still shoots like a champ.
