Normal Feeding/Extracting
Just ran some dummy rounds through my 92 and noticed the meplate on every cast bullet I've cycled through the action gets a nick like this. Very very light.
Is that normal? You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: Normal Feeding/Extracting
I would not say it isn't normal beens lead is soft compared to jacketed bullet. I would suspect that It is being scraped or nicked when it is on the elevator being chambered. If you are shaving copper on jacketed rounds then I would worry. It really does not look like it is shaving it.

It almost looks like just the lube is scraped off. Were the dummy rounds put together in the tube or one at a time. Also, in that this is the 480 Ruger, were they loaded through the door (gate) on the receiver or through the port in the magazine tube?

Loaded one at a time through the load gate.

Okay let me ponder that. Can you mark a case so that the orientation is establish. As an example, using a Sharpie pen to draw a wide like down the top length of the cartridge. With that line being 12:00, I would like to know what position the mark is at.357cyrus wrote:Loaded one at a time through the load gate.
My initial guess without the position reference is that it is happening when you stuff this big fat cartridge into the loading gate as the nose of the cartridge hits the opposite side of the receiver (inside).
Load another cartridge through the magazine port, up and out, and see if it is marked.

Re: Normal Feeding/Extracting
It's getting the scrape from the 3 o'clock position during extraction. Looks to me like as the extractor starts the flipping motion it scrapes the unfired bullet on back edge of the barrel....so nothing to worry about it I guess.

Can you get to this area to polish it?357cyrus wrote:It's getting the scrape from the 3 o'clock position during extraction. Looks to me like as the extractor starts the flipping motion it scrapes the unfired bullet on back edge of the barrel....so nothing to worry about it I guess.

Yes, and probably will eventually. Seems like the more I fed and extracted the less it was noticeable on a new round. Some rounds don't even get it anymore, almost like its either polishing out on its own or has a slight bit of lead built up where it was rubbing that cushions it. Haven't looked too hard at it just yet.
