20" 357 Short Rifle
20" 357 Short Rifle
Does/did Rossi make a 20" 357 that is not a carbine. I love the replica 1873 in short rifle configurations. I see that the 24" octagon barrel rifle is on the rossi usa site. I'm looking for that in a 20" barrel (round or octagonal).

I'm not sure I understand your question. Yes, Rossi made (and still makes) model 1892 rifles with 20" round barrels, chambered in .357.
If you're looking for a model 1873, you'll need to go with a different manufacturer. I don't believe Rossi has ever made 1873s.

Sorry for the confusion. I would like to find a 20" 357 that doesnt have the carbine barrel band, but rather has the rifle end cap on the end of the forend.
I only mentioned the 1873 because most manufacturers who make replicas offer them in both carbine and "short rifle" versions.

Yes, they made one that is blued. I'm not sure if they are all case hardened, mine is.
Oh yeah, it's an octagon barrel

Re: 20" 357 Short Rifle
They made them in both SS and blued and apparently case hardened I am not sure about brass or the caliber line up. As I recall they discontinued the 20" ones several years ago, at least as far as distribution in CA. AFAIK all the Rossi 20" 'rifles' were octagonals. The 20" 'carbines' were all round barrels.golfish wrote:Yes, they made one that is blued. I'm not sure if they are all case hardened, mine is.

When I think short barrel I'm afraid I think less than 20" as I grew up with the 20" Winchester 94 'Rifle' with what would have been called a 'shotgun buttstock' rather than a 'rifle' or 'carbine' stock. Winchester sold it as a 'RIFLE'.

I've seen the blued and SS models in 24" octagon barrel, it would only make sense that they would make the 20" too.Archer wrote:

I think I bought mine around 14-15 .. They have always been a hot item so they don't stay in stock very long. I lucked out with this one. It's the best R92 that I have.

Re: 20" 357 Short Rifle
They kept the 24" ones in the catalog and discontinued the 20" octagonal 'rifles'.
It probably happened about the time you got the one you have.
I have the 24" SS octagonal.
The other thing about the rifles was they came with the crescent buttplate where the carbines had the curved one without the sharp points. I had to take a little Emory cloth to the very tips of my crescent plate as it was sharp enough to cut cloth or leather when it showed up.
