Need a screw

Post by ver2cal »

I'm attempting to refinish my stocks. Everything went according to plan until I got to the small screw on the front barrel band.

I destroyed it trying to remove it. PB Blaster and heat didn't do a thing. I ended up getting a gunsmith to drill it out. The band appears to be salvaged.

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? Does anyone know the type Rossi uses here?

Thanks in advanced.

"Need a screw"

Amen

Just curious, such a lock up sounds like galling. Is it stainless?

Get your screw from Jack First?

I've heard a lot of bad stories about that band screw. It's like the hole was threaded by installing the screw...like a self-tapper without the drill tip. It's a common practice.

I had that problem myself a few years ago. I ordered mine from Rossi and got a few sights, elevators etc while I was at it. I don't recall particulars (the mind has safety valves LOL) other than the phone process was a PITA, I paid to much and waited too long. Other than that it was a wonderful experience ;)

Is there other known problem hardware on the R92 that I could buy from Jack's and save for a rainy day?

I scratched some black pieces during the take down. Does anyone have recommendations for a black pen to cover them up? It is considered gloss black? Only the receiver appears blue to me.

I've used a Birchwood Casey Presto Gun Blue Pen for years, it does a fantastic job. Unfortunately, I see that the product has been discontinued, mine is about 20 years old and still going strong. I looked on eBay and there is only one being offered... a $5 pen for $60!
