Moving on
Sold my 16" 357 as of tomorrow. Not been impressed with it other than loving it being short and lightweight. I still want a lever and Henry is the front runner. Caliber is undecided, so many options. I like different so maybe a 327 mag or 41 mag.....

Re: Moving on
I can understand.
I have the same 92, 357 trapper, but when i head out i find myself grabbing either the 44 mag 92 trapper or the 30-30 94 trapper.
They are what i instinctively grab.
Probably due to large 200 lb cats and 500/600 lb black bear roaming the mountains around the cabin.
i cant run very fast or very far, so i need something that is fast handling and hits with authority.
41 mag would be nice.
I just got back from walking the trail to and from the fishing pond, had the 16" 92 with hard cast 300 gr 44 mags in the tube.

Re: Moving on
Henry's are top quality, but are kind of cluncky. If they had a receiver loading gate I might jump on one of they're levers, but tube loading is for 22 LR, its too slow.

Re: Moving on
I did see your post. I have spent countless hours scouring the internet. I just installed the Skinner sights but haven't shot it with them. Being barrel mounted they aren't as clear as receiver mounted. I'm just over it. Too much work for a $500 gun. My 45 yo 94 will shoot circles around it. I actually prefer the tube loading of the Henry. I can always grab the old Winchester 94 if I need light and fast handling. The downside is open sights and old eyes :barracudadave67 wrote:Henry's are top quality, but are kind of cluncky. Yeah, I get it. When you're done with something, your done. I became very close to becoming a Henry guy. It was a matter of who would deliver their 45-70 first.

Re: Moving on
Everyone's needs are different. In that I'm a hunter and not a plinker and have all the cartridge offerings except the 44-40 Win, the 357 Mag is my last choice when I head out.COSteve wrote:Dumb %@*&$ move. The 357 mag is a very versatile caliber.

Re: Moving on
The 16" guns can be fun but although I've shot several and enjoyed the Winchester 94s in .44 Mag and .45 Colt I've shied away from the Rossi in part because almost everyone who has one seems to have issues with the sights being off from the get go. For me the sweet spot in both the 92s and the 94s is the 20" although I like the 24" from time to time and the 94s in 16" at least seem to shoot where you aim them.bigloop92 wrote:Sold my 16" 357 as of tomorrow. So is the .44 Mag and when it comes to levers I've got 3 .44 mags and 1 .357 and I'd probably reach for one of the .44s first. When it comes to handguns I'm probably running two for one in .357 and might reach for that first and have. Yeah cats are supposed to be smart and more or less know when you've killed them and black bear isn't grizzly but it's still BEAR but if you NEED to hit one of them and you have the choice of a .44 Mag you are very comfortable with or a .357 with less than great sights? I seem to recall some hunting stories here on the board with .357 vs. hawgs that ended with returning to a .45 Colt with high pressure rounds. To each their own choices. I don't typically sell guns but I've ditched one or two that didn't meet my expectations.COSteve wrote:Dumb %@*&$ move. The 357 mag is a very versatile caliber.

Re: Moving on
I've got a 357 Mag single shot that I really enjoy. In fact I shot my largest deer ever with it. A 200 pound, 6+ year old 8 pt. The shot was about 40 yards. A PMC 158 gr jsp went all the way through leaving a quarter size hole.COSteve wrote:Dumb %@*&$ move. The 357 mag is a very versatile caliber.

I ditched a troublesome 16" .357 R92 several years ago and haven't regretted it once. Get something that suits you and be happy.bigloop92 wrote:Sold my 16" 357 as of tomorrow.
