need sight help

Post by bigloop92 »

I have a 16" 357 mag and it shoots very high. I tried 38's and 357's, even removed the sight elevator. I have been researching sights for a couple weeks and it's mind boggling. I'd like to hear from real world experience please. What are you using? Did you have to change the front sight also?

sounds like a fairly common issue with a lot of R92's. I think you'll find that you need a taller front sight.

In order to find the correct sight height, there are several calculators, that can help.

A little better instructions:

I put a taller front sight on mine, and it's perfect now. The details are in the original thread about my sight replacement...Front Sight Replacment

  1. What Height is your original sight(Top surface of barrel to top of sight)?
  2. Which type rear sight do you use? (Picture could be good)
  3. How high do you hit, and at what distance?
Here is a description of the sight picture.
sight-picture.jpg
When I first shot my Rossi, it shot Way High.
I forgot to use the small notch(as shown under "Buckhorn"), and had my front sight, between the wings, of the Semi Buckhorn..

The way I do it, is to have a virtual line, over the notch, and the front sight, and the upper sides of the Notch, should be, at the same height.
