Help Date a New to Me Rossi 92 SRC in 357

Post by chevellemrwl »

Hello Folks.

I am new to the forum and looking for some helping in dating my new best friend.

Picked her up on my lunch break yesterday afternoon, talked him down from $500 to $450.
Rossi 92 SRC (Side Ring Carbine)
20 in barrel
In 38/357

Does not had the Taurus lock, does not have the safety on the bolt.
Shows imported by Interarms of Alexandria.

Previous owner had run a file around the loading gate and smoothed everything out.
Locks up nice and tight. I cycled some 38 dummy rounds and she seems to have no issues with them.

There are a few buggered up screws to contend with, but happens with older guns.

Serial# K 0442XX
Just looking to date her.

This might be tough, but a member, GasGuzzler, seems to always have some ideas with the non-Braztech rifles. He will probably tell you to pull the buttstock and see if it stamped with a month/date code.

Yeah I have no evidence the serial numbers on the original style SRC92s coincide with a date range. Mine of the same era has a K serial number and 1987 Julian dates on several of the internal parts.

Thanks Gentlemen.

I'll put the stock and take a peak.
Thats closer that I was before. Something about knowing dates just puts me at ease.

Sorry, no help here. I have the same dilemma.

I have a pristine Interarms marked 92 in 45 Colt with serial number prefix of "AM05XXXX".

Trying to find out more also. Rifle at in a dark safe for 30 (?) years. Found its way to my hands. Lol!

Great forum, learning lots. Thank you all.

Good to hear from you HiVelocity. The only thing that held any promise for dating pre-Braztech rifles was GG Julian dating on the parts, but not enough effort by owners to provide the references from their parts.

I feel confident in saying, if the above effort doesn't work, there is no record of when a pre-Braztech rifle was manufactured.

I'll try it. I don't have the actual model number (catalog model).

A few days after sending an email to the address provided, I received a cannot send error related to a problem with the recipient. I cannot remember the language specifically but basically it said it's a bad address.
