I saw a new Miroku-manufactured Winchester 94 at the range a few weeks ago, and it was a mighty fine rifle. Miroku has been making firearms for 125 years, and has been manufacturing for Browning and Winchester for . . . a really long time. A New Haven manufactured 92 is a nice idea, but if you want one in 357 or 44 Mag, Rossi and Miroku are the only options that I know of.

An LGS has a 45 colt stainless 16" they've had listed for $670. I just went in today and they knocked $100 off that price.

So, has anybody found ANY place that's getting new Rossi 92's in? I mean, they're supposedly shipping them, but WHO'S GETTING THEM?

If any were coming in they would be listed on Gunbroker. One new rifle listed there, not current year manufacture.

I found a couple earlier this year. They're coming in, just in small numbers, and they go quick. I recommend doing online searches, as you can cover more ground that way. When you find one, pounce on it.

There are a couple additional options out there. Browning produced the model 92, as the B92, for a few years and they can be found pretty readily for sale yet online. Taylors/Chiappa also manufacture and market its version of the 1892.

Not sure about Uberti.

Speaking of Miroku . . . In addition to my Rossi 92 I have a Browning B92. I've had the Rossi for three years. I've tuned it and tweaked it and have given it a zillion hours of TLC. It's buttery smooth, reliable, and looks great. I love it, but I still longed for a "real" 92. The B92 frame has the correct frame contours; the Rossi frame looks like a 94.

Last winter I came across the Browning B92 (.44 mag) in like-new condition in the box with original papers. You have to handle one of these to understand how elegant it is. The bolt and locking bolts slide in the receiver like pistons in a cylinder. It's precise without being tight. I have no desire to give it the Steve treatment. (By the way, on another forum Steve said he believed the B92 to be the finest 92 ever made.) Also, unlike the Winchester from Miroku, it doesn't have the tang safety.

I paid $485 for my Rossi (.38/.357) three years ago. I paid $920 for the Browning. I love them both and wouldn't part with either.

Note: I assume others are as impatient with article-length posts as I am. I'll share detailed comparisons for future, separate posts.

I was at my local Cabelas today and they have a R92 in 45 Colt, round barrel,it has a Skiner peep sight on it and appears to have the 454 butt stock, recoil pad that looks factory and sling swivel studs. Their asking $549. It's the Centerville, Ohio store if anyone is interested.

First R92 I've seen in quite a while.

Make smoke,
