Every rossi 92 I order from Buds gun shop, gets a going over.
I bring with me my reading glasses, bore light, snap caps, etc.
I spend at least 5 to 10 minutes, starting at the muzzle and working my way down, checking every inch.
Then I look internally, bore, action, etc,. then load snap caps, work the action very slow and then fast.
The girl behind the counter said, you are one of the very few that do this, she said the majority of people dont even take them out of the box.
When I go in looking for a mosin nagant, and they have crates setting out in the showroom, with a couple crates opened, and they say go get one, I sit down, pull out my gallon freezer bag, full of wipes, paper towels, etc,. then put on the surgical rubber gloves right in the middle of their showroom, the counter people usually start laughing when they see the rubber gloves come out.
I usually have mosins pilled up everywhere, until I find the one I want.
When I buy something, I dont want to find any problems once I get home.

There is a difference between a gun store and a multi-department store like Cabela's, Walmart, or Bass Pro.

My local Walmart requires a pistol permit to buy pistol caliber ammo. When I said 22 ammo is pistol caliber and you will sell that without a pistol permit I was informed that's different %@*&$! I pointed out that NY state has no such law and was told it's store policy. I asked them if I bought that Henry rifle that you have right there in the gun case could I buy a box of ammo for it? The answer was no. I have since gotten a pistol permit, not on their account, so the issue doesn't come up now. They also ring up the ammo right there and staple the bag and receipt. The good side is they will ring up everything I have so no wait up front.

At least most of you folks aren't dealing with the stupidity of Yankee waiting periods any longer.
Here in CA once we've PURCHASED the firearm and PAID the taxes and background fees even though there is an instant background system in place and even though there has been a directive for the state attorney general to remove it for those of us who have already legally purchased a firearm having already gone through a background check and already possessing a firearm making the entire concept of a 'cooling off period' nothing but an infringement on our further exercise of the second amendment we STILL each and EVERY time must wait 10 days between time of purchase and time of possession.

I'll walk quickly away from ANY vendor selling ANY golden unicorn who is not willing to exhibit it or who gives me any reason to doubt their sincerity. In particular with regard to a Rossi I won't buy one I can't cycle the action on and look at the innards. My dealer has on several occasions told me to go ahead and order a particular gun if I can find it when his suppliers haven't been able to get a particular model. EVEN if it comes in through normal channels he expects me to go over whatever comes in with a fine toothed comb. I've not backed out on anything I've bought through the shop or had ordered in either. I have however seen one or two Rossi Circuit Judges come in with broken stocks. I've seen several semi auto pistols require their magazines to be reassembled correctly or have extra followers or floorplates removed.
I've seen Rossi levers come in a little rough, although nothing like some of the stories here. I've seen some Marlins show up barely functional although the past year or so they've been looking pretty nice.

I've seen folks throw away spare mags, scope mounts, safety locks w/ keys, keys for locks integral to the gun, instructions, batteries, choke tubes, choke wrenches and tools for disassembly and adjustments. And I've seen guns that were supposed to show up with 2 mags have only one in the box. At some points some manufacturers were getting so tired of having distributers steal the spare mag that they stopped including them in some cases.

Good mornimg
Danville ILLinois at the Big R North Store they will not remove the ties nor permit the buyer to hold it. Sales dude said it is store policy. Reason... some one might have a loaded mag in their pocket.

I would have also walked out. It seems that big box chains often just don't want to be bothered with customers. :?:

Thanks. These issues make me just as sick.

For $460? I'll make that gamble every day. I have purchased a total of 2 bad guns out of over 30 that have been through my hands and both of them were Ruger revolvers. Both were shooting issues that could not have been spotted on even the best pre purchase look over.

rondog,

I may have been the loser, but I have already been a loser once with a Rossi, that was a complete %@*&$ and sent back to the service center and it was returned in worse shape than when it was sent in, with the same problem it was sent in for. It was a brand new gun. You may be willing to roll dice, go for it. I like these guns, and have had a few that were gems. However, I am not willing to roll dice after being burned bad once. I offered to buy the gun and do the paper work and provide ccw in addition to drivers licence. Not enough.

Maybe you have experienced Rossi's great service. If so, good for you. If not, you should read some of the stories from people like me who have.

I don't believe I will never see another one. I have seen them pretty regularly around here, if you are looking, they do show up periodically on web sites, and at gun shows.

Well I made my way here after burning up the internet for the last few months looking for a Rossi 92 large loop in .357. I've seen a couple on gunbroker but they go for over $700 ! You can get a .44 or .45 all day for less than $500. I figure you guys will know..

-Why are new M92 sold out everywhere?
-If .357 carbines are getting so scarce and prices are climbing, why is Rossi leaving all that money on the table?
-I know Rossi is still in business but have they quit making the M92 for some reason?

Fill me in!
