Nice 92 357 in Muskegon Mi

Postby woden » 28 Dec 2017 15

I stopped by the Dunham's store in Muskegon Mi today to check out the gun selection. They had three rossi 92s
all 20" bbl, blue, a 45, a 44 and 357. These were on sale for about $460, a great price as far as I could tell. I was seriously considering buying the 357 mag, so I asked the counter guy to look at it. First, could not look at the gun without giving him my drivers licence to hold? Apparently they have trouble with people grabbing and running out the door. So I gave him my id, very nice gun, no visible problems, sight was in alignment, etc. I then asked him to remove the zip tie so I could look down the bore and cycle it. He said he could not do it. I said see you later. I guess Dunhams doesn't really want to sell many guns, if you can't look down the barrel or cycle the action I won't be buying any from them, especially on a Rossi. Its too bad, that was a nice gun.

If anyone is willing to gamble, its probably still there. Sale ends late tonite.

I sure don't understand how a business won't let you look at a gun like it should be looked at. I even take a bore light in my pocket! Maybe we are the oddballs. People must just walk in and buy them without handling them.

The parts of Muskegon that I've been through are pretty rough. Still, maybe it was worth asking for the manager. Zip-tied firearms are the norm at Washington gun shows, but they'll cut them if you ask.

As rare and hard to find as ANY new Rossi is now, especially a .357 model, I'd say YOU are the loser here! To walk away from a unicorn in your hand over something as trivial as that is just crazy. Demand a manager, offer a deposit, whatever it takes. But copping a "screw you" attitude that quickly and walking away from something that you may never see another one ever again is nuts.

I think I'd be on safe side as well. You never know what your getting with a Rossi unless you can inspect it and even then it's still a gamble.

The big box stores seem to have their own crazy rules when it comes to firearms sales. I purchased a Buckmark for a family member for Christmas at Rural King here in Ohio this month, the salesman was very knowledgeable and let me inspect it thoroughly. After the sale the firearms "official" had to carry it through the store out into the parking lot for me. I don't know just seems weird.

Last time I bought a gun at a big box store I showed them my concealed carry permit to avoid paying for a background check and they still had to escort me to the door. I have a carry permit, I most likely have a gun hidden on me, but you still have to escort me to the door? Makes no sense to me.

The Walmart and Rural King here both do the same thing, but so does the local gun store, a place called Woodbury Outfitters. I just wonder if maybe it's some screwy ass Ohio law, but then I think I've been in other states where they did the same thing.

I've also been in several Walmarts in Ohio, where you have to pay for ammunition at the Sporting Goods counter- you cannot take it to any other register- and they put it in a bag and staple it shut with the receipt attached; but in other Walmart stores the Sporting Goods Clerk is required to take it himself to the front and give it to a cashier, and you pay for it there right before you leave. No logic and no consistency from store to store.

The escort to the door is law.

Most Walmart stores make you pay for ammo at the SG desk. The fact they are not consistent from store to store isn't weird at all as three stores in a 10 mile radius will have three different prices on the same item.

The zip tie is company policy in the store but a law (in Texas) at a gun show. All arms are checked for being loaded and zip tied at the door even in TX but....cutting one off at a show to look at a gun is usually fine as long as you put one back.

I would not call a Rossi .357 a unicorn and I routinely walk away from deals for less offensive behavior if it peeves me (no price tag at a show, ignore me at your table, etc).

Weird, last two guns I purchased at two local gun stores, thoroughly inspected (by me), paper work done, have a nice day, Curt, and I carried my purchase out without and escort.
