Maybe just a re-crown but if accuracy is up to snuff I wouldn't mess with what ain't broke.

Make smoke,
Yes, I tried that but it wouldn't recognise the number. I called the Customer Service number on the website and they explained that they only have records for rifles that they imported to the US. It looks as though I'll have to go to the UK importer for more information, but I don't hold out much hope, hence my post on this forum in case anybody here had a similar set of numbers! Maybe Taurus uses a different numbering system for rifles going to the US.

The UK importer should at least be able to tell you when it was imported, which will get you a lot closer than you are now.

Regarding your muzzle, you can easily clean up that crown with a proper size fine grit conical stone, turned carefully by hand to keep it concentric to the bore. Affix 600 grit silicon carbide paper to the stone to get the final finish.

All you need to accomplish is to create a fine even bevel that goes all around the bore. I've dome a number of these, often with substantial accuracy improvement.

I chronographed a few 45 Colt loads from the 20” Rossi 92 today. I had 2-5 of each and only wanted baseline velocity so you won't see standard deviation, extreme spread etc. this time.

As always... these loads have proven safe in MY guns. They were worked up carefully, some over a period of years. I recommend you consult reputable reloading manuals, begin with the 'start' loads and never exceed their listed maximum. I assume no responsibility for anyone duplicating my loads.

Image

Left to right-

1. My bulk 45 Colt Maplewood Bullets Lee 452-255-RF over 8.5 grains of Universal and does 910 fps from a 4 5/8” New Vaquero. This load does 1180 fps from the 20” Rossi. It's also the only load tested here that is safe in the New Vaquero and is a pussycat from the carbine.

Everything below is for heavy frame Rugers, Contenders and modern-made lever actions like the Winchester 92 & 94 clones and the 94 Marlins. Do not use them in Colt sized sixguns or toggle-link rifles like 1860 Henry or 1866 or 1873 Winchester clones.

2. A 255 grain Missouri Bullet SWC over 13.0 grains of HS6, always good for 1050-1075 fps from 4/58 to 5 ½ inch Rugers and 1232 fps from my previous 16” Rossi carbine. It did 1351 fps from the 20” Rossi.

3. A Sierra 240 grain JHP over 27.4 grains of H110 is a deer killin' machine at 1257 fps from a 5 1/2” Blackhawk. My previous 16” Rossi carbine produced 1550 fps with this load. It did 1699 fps from the 20” Rossi.

4. A 300 grain, .452" Hornady Mag XTPs; old production with a single cannelure over 22.0 grains of W296 powder. It runs 1093 fps from a 4 5/8” Vaquero and produced 1485 fps from the 20” Rossi.

5. The RCBS #82083 is listed as a 300 grain SWC with a gas check base; the alloy mine were cast from drops them at 315 grains, +/- a grain, for the finished bullet. I load it over 22.5 grains of W296 which scoots them to 1558 fps from the 20” Rossi. Not far behind standard loadings of the 45-70 and I doubt game under 1000 pounds could tell the difference.

Footnote- This rifle fed all these loads in a mixed magazine, no glitches or complaints.

I'm loading a very similar load with the XTP Mags with 22.5 grains of H 110 that produces 1609 fps. What primers are you using?

CCI large pistol primers. Heck another half grain might get mine pretty close to that, if I wanted to crowd it.

I have a Rossi R92, stainless, 24" octagonal, .45 Colt. Bought it new in July or August 2016. It was great out of the box, used it like that for over a year, didn't even clean it. But once I took it apart, cleaned it, slicked it up, did a trigger job, and refinished the wood, it's one of my favorite guns! Definitely my favorite levergun. It's a real good shooter. Can't wait for them to come back, I want one in .357 real bad.

My SS 357 92 was purchased new in early September this year, I would rate fit and finish as good, brass bead on front sight badly off center, replaced it with a Skinner.Function has been great has fed all factory loads I have tried in both 38 & 357 it also has fed several different handloads with swc bullets with no problems .Many of the loads I have tried will shoot clovers at 25 yards from the bench.
I would buy it again fun gun to shoot. Might be needin one in 45 colt. +guns
