adding recoil pad

Post by dad »

I was wondering if anyone as squared the rear butt stock and added a recoil pad. To take from the crescent or curved stock to like a shot gun style rear stock?

You can look through the Similar Topics at the bottom of the page but I've never found a pad that I thought would fit and I'm reluctant to remove the amount of wood that would be required. I did buy two used 454 Casull buttstocks that need to be repaired and refinished; one for my 44 and the other for the 45. The both have a crack that needs to be repaired. I just haven't had the time to work with them, and I think it has now been two years.

Just to piggyback here Ive thought of using thd padded 454 stock too but ive heard that the angle is too much and is more suited to shooting bird with a shotgun than a deer ahead/below you in the woods

Do you still think its bettwr than having none?

Here you go. I did mine two years ago and it is holding up well. It makes a big difference when shooting the 44 mag.

Do you have the model or part number of the pad you used?

Not sure why the angle (Drop are comb?) Would be different as they come off a 92. And yes would be better than nothing. Right now I'm using a PAST wearable with hot loads in the 45 Colts.

My .357 SRC92 and 336RC .30-30 both kick my grass but much like scopes on a lever or rails on an AK or 1911, I'll keep underperforming as to conform to my beliefs LOL. I'm thinking the only recoil pad I have is the OEM orange one on my 1975 870 Wingmaster 20 I've never shot.
