454 Casull R92

Post by Matthew.kaye »

Hi all

For all you folk on here that shoot .454 casull, how does the r92 hold up to factory loads? Does the action take a pounding over time or is it more than strong ebough to feed it a steady diet of full factory .454 loads?

I've never shot a round of factory ammo but have shot my reloads with heavy cast bullets at above 50.0K PSI without it bothering the rifle a bit.

I have shot over 500 factory rounds through mine (on my 33rd box of 20 Hornandy and a couple of boxes of others that I don't recall). I have not had a single issue with mine (knock on wood). That said, GRV01 is correct, they are tough to find, however, someone else that just registered just found a stainless steel flavor. Good Luck.

now I don't feel so bad about buying an extra 454 in a moment of weakness.

The model 92 is simply a shortened version of the model 1886 which was (and is) chambered in 45-70. The action in both is incredibly strong and can easily handle both the 45-70 and .454 Casull.
