When was she born?

Post by claudester »

Tried to find out the year of mfg. for my first Rossi 92 with no luck. I called Rossi ( or Taurus ) and they told me they didn't have records for my serial number being that it was made before they bought Rossi. The serial number is K081512. Any help out there would be appreciated.

Records are very sparsely kept for rossi guns. Can you give us more info. Like is it a puma, what is the model number on your gun. Any of this info may help someone ballpark the date of import at least.

Yeah, no records from the non-Braztech rifle. About all you can do is compare with similar rifle owners that purchased their rifle.

GasGuzzler knows a bit about these, I'm sure he will see this.

All the major metal parts plus both pieces of wood have a date code on my 1987 version. I have found no way to date these old models by serial number.

Is there an ongoing list of serial numbers on the forum someplace?

Nope.

Why?

I'm a numbers guy and the ten hours I spent piece by piece looking into it taught me the logrythm behind their number system is beyond my volunteer pay scale.

Do what I said when it comes in and help prove my theory. We get enough of those I might revisit tabling them.

The only way that would help is if you had been the original purchaser of the firearm and had a date of purchase. That would reduce the guessing on manufacture date to a period of up to three years prior.

My parts are date coded so I must ASSume they were marked when assembled. No way to know when sold new. I don't care when mine was sold but I do care care when it was built.

GasGuzzler:
On which parts, of your rifle, was the date code easiest to find?
