Carrier screws loose or tight ?

Post by kyron4 »

Newbie here, just dove into the world of the 92 Rossi ( 16" 357 mag),and my first lever gun so be prepare for a barrage of question as I go forward. Just did the complete disassembly to get it ready for a brake cleaner flush and noticed the two screws that hold the carrier/lifter in the receiver were both loose enough to turn with my finger. Are they suppose to be loose for some reason or should I snug them up when I reassemble the rifle ? -Thanks

I tighten them down and function test sometimes I think they are loose as the rifle won't function otherwise. Bolt gets caught or hung up if screws are to large. Then some may need to be trimmed down. Only tighten and test and see best I can suggest. keep us posted +corn

I'm with AK, once you clean the gun and put it back together, cycle the action 500 times and see how things are

If it's a used gun they're probably loose on purpose to allow function. If so they likely need trimmed and tightened.

I have the same thing on mine, if I tighten the screws up the action doesn't operate, so I need to leave them loose.
A trip to get some low strength thread lock for me today!

Windscreen replacement shops generally give away for free small transparent patches for immediate application to small fractures, apparently keeps water and such out from between the glass laminate and delays more significant fracturing.
Excellent for retaining lifter screws which must be left loose.

I just bought some purple (low strength) threadlock to allow for loose screws, works a treat, and the screws are easily removed (only 6NM hold). +guns
