Time For A Scope ?
Another unsuccessful trip to the range and starting to think these
old eyes ( 83 ) aren't sharp enough for the Red Dot at 75 yards.
Will be reviewing posts to see what brand scout scopes members
are using and search some reviews.
Any suggestions will be appreciated ... Jim

Re: Time For A Scope ?
I'm a Weaver K4 Scout guy, a bunch of them, but I wonder if anyone is shooting the LER 2-7X32mm #JHI2732B at the bottom of the Pearson's page?
It might be a bit long for the 92 and it is an LER vs. IER scope (Long vs. Intermediate Eye Relief). What base are you using now?
In that I'm pretty sure that you are asking about the scope for the 92, I will move this topic to that forum.

Re: Time For A Scope ?
My 92 is stainless, so I limited my search to silver scopes. I ended up buying a Swift Premier 2x20, which I'm very happy with. It's officially a pistol scope, but the minimum eye relief (about 9.7 inches) is quite adequate. Also on my short list was a Nikon Force XR 2x20. It's more expensive, and the ocular bell is larger (41mm vs 35mm). If I were made of money, I'd buy a Leupold FX-II Scout IER 2.5x28. Still, the Swift is the smallest and lightest I've found, and I like how it matches the scale of the 92 carbine.
All of these are available in black, by the way. And the one I really wished came in silver is the Burris 2.75x20.

Re: Time For A Scope ?
RD. thanks for moving the post and I have the original Rossi base not an NOE.
Thanks for the replies now I can look at these for starters.
I'll only be punching holes in paper out to 75 - 100 yards. Range was really
busy yesterday, another senior shooter was making five shot groups you could
cover with a nickle. BUT he was only shooting targets at 25 yards, scoped.
He looked thru my Red Dot and commented " that's terrible, I can barely make
out your target ( 50 yards ), you need a scope ".
A scope would make a nice Father's Day present to myself .... Jim

Re: Time For A Scope ?
The lack of slots on the Rossi might be a problem for the scope that I mentioned. With the longer length, both physically and it being an LER, the turret will probably compromise ring placement at the the forward slot on the base.Jaybm wrote:RD. thanks for moving the post and I have the original Rossi base not an NOE.

Re: Time For A Scope ?
Thanks for the heads up ... that price was tempting.
Vortex makes a nice scope about twice the price and the local
Academy might have it in stock. Could take the carbine in and
make sure of the fit provided they'll let me in the door with it.

Academy will let you walk in with a carbine? Just thinking about how they escort you out when you buy one.Jaybm wrote:...Academy might have it in stock. Could take the carbine in and make sure of the fit provided they'll let me in the door with it.

Re: Time For A Scope ?
ha ha ha, maybe not ... I have been escorted out several times.
As I'm searching the web Cabela's handles the Vortex as well and they offer free
mounting and bore sighting. Just bring your rifle in ! They're out of stock presently
but expect delivery in three weeks.
I've just finished what I'll call " static zeroing " out in the back yard w/o firing,
just making some drastic adjustments to move the dot. Give it one more try
next week.

Re: Time For A Scope ?
Thanks to RD, I went with the Weaver Scout Scope on my R92 44 mag.... and I have eye problems. Due to the extended eye relief, I still have to wear my "readers" (over my contacts) instead of my "see-ers"to see the crosshairs, whether hunting, plinking or whatever, but at least I can get everything somewhat in focus. I like the Weaver.
