As I'm searching the web Cabela's handles the Vortex as well and they offer free
mounting and bore sighting. Just bring your rifle in !
Academy in Greenville did free setup and bore sighted a scope on a rifle I bought elsewhere. They were polite, friendly, and efficient.
Just stop at the service desk, and someone will escort you to the back.

Goggle it, power and prices vary. Cabela's here asking $149, Optic's Planet advertises
$129, but I've dealt with Optics Planet before and hit the " In Stock " , yeah right,
reality so a confirming phone call would be in order. Took several months to get my
spotting scope. Have to buy rings separate.

Zippy, I have an ole buddy working the door at the local Academy so I think I could
get the carbine in. I'll have to make a trip to see if they have the Vortex on the
shelf.

Nope, nothing with an eye relief greater than 4.7 inches. Too bad, because I'm a big fan of Vortex.

Jim - I'm using the NCStar Sporting Scope. It's a 2.5x30 scope with long eye relief. Model number is SPB2530B. It just works great for my eyes and is pretty inexpensive to boot. I'm using a pair of quick disconnect rings on it with the original rossi rail. the scope and rings hold zero very well on my 357 and no adjustment is needed taking it on and off.

And just to confuse things, Leapers makes a couple of variable magnification scout scopes - 2-7x44 and UTG 1-4x28. They both have 30mm tubes. They're the only illuminated reticle scout scopes I've seen. The oculars are a little beefy. I've never seen either one in real life, but the concept is intriguing.

Well after consulting with the head honcho it looks like the Weaver K4 is the best
all around fit for me. I have to reload some .357's before hitting the range for a
final test of the Red Dot next week.

Checking a number of on line sources, no one seems to have that scope on the shelf
at this time. I'm patient ... thanks for all the replys, Jim

Update: K4 Weaver is ordered however it's back ordered. Rings will be here Friday !

Another lesson to share ... pays to be extra observant ! At the range yesterday and
POI was still BLAH !
Noticed the horizontal adjustment on the rifle rest was way off to one side ???
Well no wonder my POI is off to the right and adjusting the Dot wasn't hacking it.
Of course by now the Dot is way off and I contacted Vortex for help in re-centering
it. Holy Cow. got a reply in one day !
So the max MOA is 90 ... counted 45 clicks back from max so I should be centered
or at lease close. Find out next range trip !
Added a Jam nut to the horizontal threaded rod on the rest to stabilize it !
