safety plug peep sight

Post by Gaterskiner »

I just instaled one from Steves guns on my Rossi 92. Fit was so loose I had to file A new groove for the pin. it holds but not much metal holding it. The diamiter of the plug is small. It adjusted to point of aim easily but sticks way up. looks silly and easily damaged.
Is this normal? how have yours worked?

Same as my experience with my 92 chambered in 480 Ruger. Figured it wouldn't last in the country I hunt. Put a scout scope on the rifle and called it a day.

I am haveing A friend make A new adapter piece the corect size and adding another lock nut to add stability to the tall apiture post.
Shoots good. Lot of money for A little adapter that is poorly made.

Chap I sold a 45LC Rossi 92 to reported the same problem after he tried to install one of the SG aperture sights.
Junk.
The pop can fix sounds good but something that expensive should fit without the jury rigging.

Once you get A look at it you can see how simple it is to make one. $37. for A skinner Lo Pro sight. $60 For the SG. and the part made by SG barley works.
Good idea though.

I'm using the factory sights but if my eyes get worse and I start killing more trees than deer I'll grab a tube of Crazy Glue at Walmart and go the Scout Scope route like RD did.

I used Acra-Glas to install mine - rock solid and should be there forever. I can't put the original safety back, but that wasn't a consideration for me.
