Mine is a 45 Colt. With a loaded magazine and twelve additional rounds on my belt I feel well-heeled and ready for anything those pesky hogs can throw at me.
My next 92 is going to be a .357 with a sixteen inch barrel. Those little rifles are just cool!

Re: What Cartridge Is Your R92 Chambered In?
I took a review team back home a few years ago and found a Interarms Rossi 92 Carbine in .44-40 and in superb condition, but I wasn't able to get back after business was concluded to make the sale. I should have followed up with a dealer transfer and bought it long distance, but I let it slip my mind, in part because I wasn't hot on tooling up to load yet one more caliber.

Too be honest though there isn't a niche I can't meet with either my .45 Colt carbines and rifle, or my .357 Magnum rifle, so I don't miss the .44-40...much.

I went with as 24" rifle, in part to maximize the .357's ballistic and accuracy potential. I'm getting 1,810 fps average velocities with Federal 158 gr JSPs and I'm getting 2,170 fps out of 125 gr XTPs.choctaw wrote:My next 92 is going to be a .357 with a sixteen inch barrel. Both loads are producing 2.5" groups at 100 yards and will maintain that 2.5 MOA accuracy at 200 yards on calm days, in large part due to low standard deviation in velocity of 13-15 fps in the longer barrel. 200 yards is also a realistic shooting distance for it, as with the 158 gr load zeroed at 150 yards, it is only 3 3/4" high at 85 yards and only 4" low at 175 yards and 8" low at 200 yards, where it still has 527 ft pounds of energy and 1,225 fps velocity.
With the 125 gr XTP I can zero it for 170 yards and be about 3.9" high at 100 yards, and only 4" low at 200 yards, with 1,288 fps remaining velocity, although less energy at 461 ft pounds. For most purposes, shooting point blank out to 200 yards with a .357 with no more than 4" deviation from the line of sight, and being able to shoot 5" groups while doing it is worth the trade off in energy.
I also like the 30" sight radius of the rifle with a tang sight and the balance of the 24" rifle is superb with enough weight forward to swing well on moving targets and hold steady for offhand shooting. Both of those things are harder to accomplish with a 16" carbine.
Plus the 24" rifle carries comfortably with the hand under the rear of the forearm, directly under the rear sight, rather than with the hand under the receiver.

I looked for a 92 in .480 Ruger for more than an year and finally I gave up and got one in .45LC.
I am definitely happy with .45LC, but I still wish I could find a .480, to match my Super RedHawk in .480.
