Forgot my hat
at home when I went to the range. More than once, the ejected shell dropped right in behind my eye glasses. They're kinda hot when resting on the cheek because it takes a little while to secure a loaded rifle and remove the glasses. I always wear a hat at the range and never noticed the ejection trajectory until now. Maybe two years ago, I installed an ejector spring from either Steve or Gunslinger. Maybe I ought to go back to the OEM spring...in case I forget my hat again.

Re: Forgot my hat
Auto-loading pistols and Steve's spring in my 92 have necessitated wardrobe modifications at the range. The 92 OEM spring would shower brass on fellow range occupants which was unacceptable.

Re: Forgot my hat
I'd like to be as good as shot as the ejector that can place spent shells right behind my glasses. That's almost a trick shot.
I'm usually the only one on the range so launching shells isn't a big problem. So I may go back to that, even though the lever feel is really good on the aftermarket springs.

Re: Forgot my hat
I was at the range last evening with two buddies and we were ALL shooting autoloading rifles.
5.56/.223, 7.62x39 and .308/7.62NATO brass flying all over everywhere.
The .308 AR with the shell deflector bump dropped it right in front of the line in a pile.
The ARs dropped both the 7.62x39 and the 5.56/.223 off to the right a bit but not too badly flung into the next shooter.
The Mini 14 however threw the brass all over creation into the next two shooters to the right AND up the bank beyond them.
We've all seen some lady in a halter top doing the hot brass boogie at the range.
It's always INTERESTING but the problem is to decide if you start out running or if you think she's going to keep the gun pointed down range.

Re: Forgot my hat
See it about every other trip to the local ODNR range. Young "tactitard" shows up with current significant other to either impress her with his wiz band AR-15 or to teach her to shoot his glock. Usually results in burn and screams. But then I caught a few hot cases over the years my self. Being left handed the service M16s were particularly unforgiving of open collars. I learned to button the top button on my fatigue shirts real early on. My M1 has been known to drop cases on my head on occasion. Like wise the 2 92s but I never had either of them put one behind my glasses. Definitely sounds unpleasant.

Re: Forgot my hat
If I see a gal at the range with exposed cleavage at-risk of ejected brass, I warn her of the possible danger, and suggest that the masking tape for hanging targets can close her neckline. At least being aware of the possibility, may prevent poor muzzle discipline when the inevitable pain takes hold.Archer wrote:We've all seen some lady in a halter top doing the hot brass boogie at the range.

I was wearing a V-neck the first time I shot an auto-loader, and taped the neckline closed after suffering a burn.

Re: Forgot my hat
Was at the range last night when I watched as a hot case went UP a girls shirt sleeve.....she did exactly what is required and re-holstered her weapon prior to retrieving the brass. She ended up with a nice little red mark, but made the comment that getting the gun in a safe condition was her first priority.
