CJ with 225gr FTX

Post by GaryinOh »

Reloading tips and thoughts on using Hornady 225gr .452 FTX in the 45-410 CJ. Will they work without triming the brass? Powder ,OAL and primers used ? Thanks for any info

Not much knowledge but I'd expect you won't have to trim the brass short (a-la .45-70 FTX) although if you want a uniform crimp trimming to a uniform length might be a good idea.
After all the unfolded crimp of the 410 hull is probably a bit longer than the loaded .45 Colt round even with a FTX in place BUT that would be something easy to check before you loaded a bunch of them.

Don't know for your caliber but for .357 mag. you have to trim shorter than .38 special. So try 5 before you destroy all your brass if you do have to trim brass. Keep us posted. I haven't dealt with ftx in this size. It does ok in .357, but lead in swc and heavy lead 180 grain I would take over them. Kenetic energy of more mass equals more stopping power!
