Marlin Model 60

Post by SaltH2Odeprived »

I have a 22 cal. Marlin 60 as many of you may also own since about 11 million of these have been made since the 1960s. These guns are pretty accurate as they come. I have done a lot of work on this gun to improve accuracy. The stock has been pillar bedded, barrel is floated in the forearm and a pressure pad is installed at the very front of the forearm. The bolt and the rails it slides on in the receiver are polished. A McCarbo spring kit is installed and it has a KAT (Kick Ass Trigger) two piece roller bearing trigger. The spring kit and trigger combo dropped pull from factory 5.5 lbs to only 14 oz. The magazine has been rotated to the side for easier loading. The scope is a
Nikon PROSTAFF RIMFIRE II BDC 150 3 - 9 x 40 mounted with Leupold Riffleman see-thru rings, under the scope is a Marbels bullseye sight for quick access close distances.

A few weeks ago I had some fun at our camp range, just messing around shooting some quick burst at an empty Freon jug at 190 yards.

After watching the video I realized four rounds were sent down range before the first one hit the target. It seemed like it may be possible to shoot five rounds. So the next day I loaded 15 rounds and shot three 5 round bursts.

Here is some more fun shooting targets at 50, 100, 190, 100, 50 and then 100.

My nephew likes this gun so much, he asked me to find an older model Marlin 60 and give it the treatment.
I found a 1970 Glenfield 60 which has the 18 round magazine, 21 in barrel and the desirable "Squirrel Stock".
Just finished the gun and can't wait to give it to him. I have done this to other 60s for my brother and another nephew. This one is my favorite to date.

I've got a 12345XXX SN long 22" barrel 18 round tube (old features) from 1988 with hold open last shot bolt (new feature, only made with both a few years). I paid $100 for it a year ago. It looks new. I love it. My wife claimed it.

Never seen a 60 so worked over. Nice.

Yes, the combination of long barrel, 18 round magazine and Last Shot Held Open bolt is the holy grail of Marlin 60.

Hmmm, interesting mods! I have a Glenfield with tree rats on it, and a Model 60 DLX Anniversary Edition that's gorgeous. Love 'em both just fine, but never thought about tinkering on them.....
