New Mosin M44

Post by Livefast123 »

Well after years of wanting to I finally decided to start collecting my other passion in the firearms world, World War 2 rifles. I've always been interested in classic military rifles since my grandfather served in the desert in WW2 and used to tell me exciting stories as a child. He was equipped with the venerable Lee Enfield in .303 Brit.

Since prices here in the UK are rediculous I've started my collection with a 1945 Mosin Nagant M44. I can't wait to shoot it now and need to find a set of Lee 7.62x54R dies in the UK so I can start reloading!

Nice.

My buddy bought a 1944 M44 out of a dusty corner at Bowie trade days for a song during the Mosin craze a couple years ago. He refinished the wood to look like 1944 again as well as some slicking and polishing. Added a surplus Russian marked sling and cleaning kit for little investment. Resold it a few months later at the same place for more than double. He bought another playing with house money. It was from 1939. Might have been a different model. Anyway I ended up selling it for him at a $20 profit. He stopped buying them.

Never shot either but I wish we did. Damn heavy for it's size. Should make a sweet medium power .30-ish cal.

If shooting surplus ammo it can shoot fireballs and is insanely loud. Great crowd draw at the range. I wish I hade picked up a couple of the m44 back when I could get them for 50 bucks for a blonde polish m44 non arsenal refinished. Those days are long gone those polish non rearsenaled m44 and 91/30 are selling 400 n 500 bucks apiece now. I love the m44 but sold the 2 I had I always thought there'd be more but they are scarce these days. Nice nagant44

I'm tracking down some surplus at the moment so I can experience the fireballs and muzzle blast.....been told it's way too powerful for our club range so will have to find an old railway tunnel range!

The plan when I find some Lee 7.62x54 Pacesetter dies and .311 expander in the UK is to make a nice cast load for out to about 200m and a mousefart cast load for our 25 - 50m service rifle competitions with 5gr Titegroup and 115gr RNFP. Surplus will apply to everything else.

Basic M44's are selling for $500 here with the Polish or rarer ones going for $800. - 1000! So I feel dead smug that I acquired this one from a private seller for $190!

I have a Tula M44 that I enjoy playing with most of the time. However the steel butt plate and full house mil-spec ammo can take some getting used to. Right now I'm working with a 170 gr cast gas checked bullet and about 13 grains of Trail Boss. Nice mouse phart load but I need fatter boolits.

Enjoy!

Nice Mosin. I have one in much worse shape and its sewer pipe bore taught me to fill the throat in order to get good accuracy with cast bullets. I never could get much accuracy with the light bullet. Right now I'm using a light load of American Select with a Lyman 319247 165gr plain base flat point running about 1250fps.

I cut the barrel to 20" and the fire ball with surplus is impressive.

Post a video. I'd like to compare it to a .30C OMBH.
